Let's shift from conflict to collaborative conversation.
In private practice for over 20 years, I have extensive experience working in the field of conflict resolution as a mediator, facilitator, coach and instructor.
I was first drawn to this work by a desire to improve my ability to communicate effectively, especially in conflict. Now I work with others who also want to develop this skill and practice preparing for difficult conversations in a way that repairs and builds relationships.
When I am not supporting others in their growth and development, I am working on my own. I am a certified coach and continue to look for courses that will enhance my ability to help others and bring growth for myself. I finished an intensive course on Positive Intelligence that focuses on understanding the influence of our self-talk, both negative (saboteurs) and positive (sages). I believe that what we say to ourselves has the power for growth, confidence, empowerment or alternatively, for destruction, negativity, and hopelessness. We have choice.
My favourite things to do are watching the sun rise, going for long walks, spending time in my garden and travelling. I enjoy meeting people from other walks of life and learning about their lives, both the challenges and the joys. When travelling at home in B.C., my husband and I love to kayak and have spent many hours on the water exploring our coastlines.
Travel gives me the opportunity to learn about other cultures, and my work does that same. I have had the good fortune to work with a wide spectrum of ethnicities, including First Nations People. As well, I have worked in industry, with corporations, non-profit organizations, educational and health care institutions, in restorative justice and with families.
I love quotations and share many of them when I am teaching or coaching. Here are two of my favourites:
“Between stimulus and response, there is space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” Victor Frankl
“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” – WB Yeats
I hope to see you soon!
