Summary:
Critiquing the work or behaviour of others can be one of the most difficult tasks that we perform as individuals, colleagues, supervisors and managers. We are often called upon to give feedback, which, if done poorly, can damage relationships, limit opportunities and increase stress. Done well, it can change behaviour, reinforce behaviour, and foster continuous growth and improvement.
We will explore and practice the essential elements of giving and receiving feedback constructively:
- Identify own attitudes and beliefs about feedback
- Describe the purpose of giving and receiving feedback
- Explore challenges
- Manage self and others’ reactions when giving and receiving feedback
- Describe the elements of giving constructive feedback and receiving feedback
- Communication skills to explore, acknowledge and listen at level 3 as well as assert
- Use a model to prepare and then deliver feedback
